Miami is a fascinating city, and taking a tour is a great way to gain a deeper understanding of its beauty and history. The tours listed here are offered for free, or almost free.

FREE GUIDED TOURS

Biltmore Hotel

This historic hotel has an amazing history. Built in the 1920s, the Biltmore began as a popular destination for celebrities as well as royalty.

Free tours are held every Sunday at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 pm. Storytelling sessions are held every Thursday at 7:30 pm. You'll see the gorgeous grounds, and hear about the hotel's rich history, including a ghost story or two.

The Barnacle Historic Site

Completed in 1891, this house built by Commodore Ralph Munroe is Miami-Dade County’s oldest house still situated in its original location.

The main house is preserved as a time capsule of Munroe’s life and times. Beyond the house is a large grassy area leading to the boat house, and fantastic views of the ocean.

Ranger-led ranger-led tours are offered at 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm and 2:30 pm on Fridays through Mondays. ($1 donation per person is requested for park entry.)

Cape Florida Lighthouse

Bill Baggs State Park is a wonderful beach park, and the site of the Cape Florida Lighthouse – the oldest building in South Florida.

Ranger-led tours are offered at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, Thursdays through Mondays. You can see the keeper’s cottage, and climb the lighthouse stairs and see the great view from the top. (There is a $5 park entry fee per vehicle.)

SELF-GUIDED TOURS

Coconut Grove Walking Tour
Miami’s Coconut Grove neighborhood has an incredibly rich history. Take this tour during the daytime for an orientation to the shops, restaurants, parks, and history of Coconut Grove.

Crandon Park Walking Tour
Crandon Park in Key Biscayne is a real natural treasure in overly-congested Miami. Besides offering one of the ten best beaches in the country, it is also home to an array of activities that families will delight in exploring. ($5 parking per vehicle.)
