South Beach is a wonderful place to just walk around and see the people, scenery, and buildings. Sure, you can choose to spend a lot when exploring South Beach, but you certainly don’t have to! Here are some fun ways to explore for free (or almost free).

Starting with Transportation

It costs only 25 cents to ride the South Beach Local Shuttle. It comes through every 10-15 minutes and has many stops along Washington Avenue and other streets. Or, try Swoop Miami, an electric golf cart that offers free rides anywhere in South Beach.

Explore the Art Deco Buildings

South Beach is full of amazing Art Deco hotels and other marvels like Casa Casuarina, the former home and murder site of designer Gianni Versace.

You can view all of these wonderfully preserved buildings on your own when you follow this printable Art Deco District Walking Tour.

Go to a Beach, Park, or Garden

If people-watching is your thing, you will find a flurry of activity and all types of people to observe at Lummus Park Beach.

South Pointe Park is a great place for going to the beach, having a picnic, tossing a ball around, or bringing your dog for a walk (leash required). The park has a children's playground and splash fountain.

Miami Beach Botanical Garden has free admission. Don't miss this quiet and lovely 4 1/2 acres in the heart of South Beach. The Garden features a variety of plants including orchids, bromeliads, and a huge collection of subtropical palms.

Visit a Museum or Art Gallery

Our listing of Free Museum Days includes a few South Beach selections. The Holocaust Memorial is always free. And the Wolfsonian-FIU Art Museum, and Jewish Museum of Florida both offer free admission one day per week.

Also, most of the Art Galleries in Miami Beach always offer free admission, including ArtCenter South Florida, Britto Central, and more.

Go Window Shopping

Browsing without buying is nothing new. This article on Miami Beach Shopping will direct you to the shopping opportunities along Collins Avenue/Washington Avenue, Lincoln Road and Espanola Way. There is plenty of people-watching on these popular streets too.

More Free Fun

The Lincoln Road Farmer's Market is a nice place to explore, and they sometimes have special events or entertainment. It is held every Sunday from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm.

And every other Sunday from October through May, you can browse around the Lincoln Road Antique and Collectible Market.

We've listed various free things to do in SoBe, but let's see what our readers have to add. Check out Readers' Favorite Free Things to Do in South Beach.
